The Super Easy Way to Make Cover Images for Pinterest Boards- Step by Step
While I was cleaning up my Pinterest boards I decided to peruse other people’s boards to see how they categorized and organized. I did get some ideas, but I also noticed that there were people who had customized their board covers! What!? I had never thought about making my own cover!
I just had to create my own cover for each board! I loved the idea of making everything look uniform and neat. I knew if this was something that I wanted to do, there would be other people out there who would want to do it too.
In this post, I will walk you through how to make your own covers so your Pinterest can look beautifully uniform and neat too!
1. First, you will need to go to www.canva.com and click on the “Social Media” image.
This is my favorite place to make images. They have so many wonderful templates already made for you! It’s so easy and best of all it’s free!
So if you don’t already have an account, go ahead an make one! It’s free– what do you have to lose?
2. Select “Layouts”
In the “Layouts” tab on the side bar you can scroll through some pre-made templates. If you’re like me, you just love finding things that are already made for you! The work is already done–no picking and choosing fonts or colors!
These templates are amazing! I used them for all my blog posts!
You can choose one that you like and change if to fit your boards or… you can go to Step 3 and see how I used the “Text” tab to create my covers.
3. Select “Text”
In this section you will find many different graphics that you can use and just put in your own text. I decided on this option for my board covers because I wanted something simple. You don’t want your boards to look too chaotic otherwise people won’t know what they are looking at.
I used the “Roadrunner” template to create my Pinterest board covers. There are soooooo many to choose from though, it was hard to just pick one!
Scroll through and see what you think. Just remember you can customize everything, so if you don’t like one of the fonts, don’t worry– you can change it! You can also change all the colors or put in your own!
If you are having a hard time deciding, try one out and upload it to your Pinterest. See what you think. Definitely do this before you create all your covers. You don’t want to do all that work and then decide you don’t like it. I uploaded several possible designs before I landed on the one I chose.
4. Customize it!
Now that you have chosen a design you are ready to create your board covers for Pinterest! You can change the background by clicking on the “Background” tab in the side bar. Explore your options! There are a lot of them…
5. Add Text
When you choose a template that is already made the text is locked in place, so if you want to add your own go to the “Text” tab and click which size you want. You can always change the size later, though, so don’t worry, it’s not really a big deal.
The nice thing about putting your own text in, is that you can move it around to where you want it. I also love that when you move things, they have those nice little centering lines, so you can tell when you are in the middle!
When you add text it will just drop it into the middle. You can then move and adjust it to where you want it. You can also edit the font type, size and color!
5. Download your Image!
Now that you are done, go to the download button to save all your hard work! Ok, it really wasn’t that hard, but you don’t want to lose that beautiful new board cover, do you?
Your image will go into your download folder, so when you go to upload, look for it there!
Now all you need to do is upload your images to your Pinterest Boards and set them as your covers!
Don’t know how to do that? Let me help you out!

Thanks for sharing, I am still learning how to work my Pinterest.
I introduced my friend to Pinterest not that long ago… she had never actually used her account! Gasp! I showed her how it works and now she’s pinning like crazy. Its such an amazing resource! Let me know if you need any help along the way 🙂
I keep hearing about Canva, I will have to check it out. I LOVE making my own graphics ❤️
You will love it! I’ve tried some of the other promoted tools out there and found that none of them are as user friendly as Canva. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Let me know if you have any questions. I’m happy to help:)

Thanks Corinne! I really think board covers make all the difference. When I visit someone’s Pinterest I like the way board covers make everything seem so cohesive despite the chaos.
